I figured we should have another thread for death metal that isn't so brutal i.e. old school, tech death, etc. Anyone else think this is already a cool year for death metal? Steve Tucker back with MA and touring with Suffo, and Immolation putting out a new album and touring. Personally I'm stoked as fuck to see both bands!

Can anyone list some modern day death metal bands, but with that old school feeling to them.Like the band Gruesome, their album Savage Lands was a blessing to listen to! Anything that has them old school vibes but isn't the typical Morbid Angel, Bolt Thrower, Wombbath etc etc (all great bands btw)

There's a MASSIVE old school death metal revival right now. Are you looking for something similar to the Death-aping that Gruesome did, or just something that feels old school, no matter the style?

Also in search of this OSDM revival. Does not have to be Death worship. But yea man, I'm fucking hyped for Tucker being back in MA. My favorite MA album is Gateways to Annihilation. Really hoping I can make this tour. The lack of a car is pretty much why I haven't seen any tours to my dismay

Honestly, anything old school! Even if its closer to suffocation and Cannibal corpse rather than Death and Morbid Angel, im just craving for that ingenius style of death metal which i cant seem to find

That reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally doesn't narrow it down in the slightest. But regardless, here's some old school type shit.
Rude Skeletal Remains Dead Congregation Ignivomous Cruciamentum Grave Miasma Disma Funebrarum Maveth Derogatory Morfin Chapel of Disease Abyssus Engulfed Entrails Demisery Gatecreeper Excoriate
There's a few to get you started. There's a never ending, always growing list of bands that play OSDM of all styles.

Thanks for the kickstart, man. I pulled up a bunch of random bands after I replied and one of em turned out to be Disma. This crushes already. Meant to listen to Funebrarum the other day and already a SR fans after their last album.

Steve tucker back in MA is one of the coolest news in a while. I also heard Erik rutan will be producing the new record at Mana recording, which is perfect IMO. really hoping for MA to come back with a vengeance after the pile of garbage Illud Insanus was.

Obscenity "retaliation" Escarnium "Interitus" Rogash "Malevolence" Fractured Insanity "Man Made Hell" Deformatory "Malediction" Cruciamemtum "Charnel Passages" I'm sure I'm missing a couple more but those are few that come to the top of my mind that have that old school vibe but with that modern kick

One of my absolute FAVORITE death metal bands is currently recording their second album right now and I am beyond excited about it. The first album was a massive slab of fiery, savage death metal. Amazing tone and some of my favorite drumming on any album. Dude is a fucking mini Derek Roddy and he's fantastic. Check this out.

Deathmongers Rude from US are ready to unleash their sophomore album "Remnants...". Honestly I didn't like their previous album cause of Van Drunken voice that I abhor. These new tracks instead I diggin' much, excellent production reminiscent of Morrisound and vocals finally more aggressive in the Florida way. And never to forget the art by Mr. Seagrave and also the really cool logo. Enjoy... "Californian Death Metal sickheads RUDE reveal the coverartwork and tracklist for their upcoming second album named „Remnants...“. Nobody less than the mighty artist Dan Seagrave is responsible for the amazing coverartwork. Well known mostly from the early '90s artwork-masterpieces of Entombed, Morbid Angel, Malevolent Creation, Suffocation, Dismember and tons more...he's still one of the greatest artists worldwide."
"On „Remnants...“ the band present 9 brandnew filthy and authentic classic Death Metal songs still in the vein of Pestilence, Morbid Angel or Nocturnus. No drum-trigger, no bombast, no bullshit...just DEATH METAL to the bone."

That Memoriam cover is pretty good! Excited for that. Now that they FINALLY have a CD option I'll probably just go with that when I do preorder.

Considering Formulas Fatal To The Flesh and Gateways To Annihilation are Morbid Angel's heaviest albums and FFTTF is my favourite release of theirs, I couldn't be more stoked on the upcoming album. Hopefully a return to form.

Just never clicked for me like FFTTF and GTA

It was the first DM album I ever brought and listening to it in context of the band's history, it's awesome they went heavier than their previous stuff. With the new lineup, I'm hoping I can finally see Prayer of Hatred and Nothing Is Not live!

Wholeheartedly agreed, Jawd. So glad Tucker is back, as F and G are two of my favorite albums EVER.
Also, I love Drawn and Quartered Ozz. Saw them last year in August or something, really awesome guys and a dark, suffocating show.

Probably my favorite post-2000 DM band (although first full length was in '99) Considering Formulas Fatal To The Flesh and Gateways To Annihilation are Morbid Angel's heaviest albums and FFTTF is my favourite release of theirs, I couldn't be more stoked on the upcoming album. Just never clicked for me like FFTTF and GTA Covenant is my favorite single MA album but the Tucker era or span of time destroys the Vincent era IMO
