Many of the BDM vocalists nowadays just use their gutturals/growls when they record their songs or when they play live and does not care about the lyrics anymore. But if you buy their CDs, it contains lyrics but you don't know if they're using it due to the style they make on their gutturals. For me, lyrics is important because you can see the eyes of the band and their vision when it comes to song writing process. And for me, it brings more power and feel to the song. I understand that most them can't say the lyrics due to vocal style they make. I do not dislike the bands/vocalist if they're just using their vocal style and not using lyrics cause a lot of them are sick. What's your opinion about this?

It depends. As you said, they can't often enunciate the lyrics cause of the vocal style, but often the vocals provide a necessary inhuman element to inhuman music so it fits. Few vocalist's can get away with sounding out the lyrics while keeping their vocals really guttural, for example, Blue Jensen, Konni from Defeated Sanity...but their bands are a bit more controlled than say Ecchymosis, who are totally awesome in their own way.

I find lyrics overrated and are not the reason I listen to music. I listen for the instruments. The vocals are in essence another layer of instruments. And I could care less what they were saying but I do find well writren lyrics fun but the very last thing I care about in music. Hence why I listen to death metal because its not about the lyrics unlike mainstream music where its more about the lyrics and less about skill in instruments

Eventhough lyrics aren't the most important part of me linking a band (the music is what primarily matters of course), lyrics are still pretty important to me. Unless it's the usual gore-rape-murder stuff, we've seen it all I think. Boring by now. But some bands really put some thought into their lyrics, wether it's the usual gore stuff, or even some completely other subjects. If a band doesn't use actual lyrics for their recordings - I don't mind as long as it sounds good. And if they do - even better. I enjoy reading the lyrics while spinning a new CD.
As far as actually using lyrics live - I don't think so. Even if bands do write lyrics and acutally sing them during the recording sessions, I highly doubt that they do so live. At least not in BDM.

This. I cared more when I first was into extreme music but now, I'm fine. I still like to read through lyrics especially if they're well written. However, a band can write lyrics that don't pertain towards my interests (Deicide, for example. First 3 albums, specifically) but can have a great sound so that lyrical content doesn't detract much. I think we're at a point to where a lot of these guys probably really don't even need to be writing especially if it's just some run of the mill shit. Just get in there and gurgle, man.

I think the importance of lyrics really depends on the band/genre, but either way, it's still part of the overall package. Good lyrics will make a good song or album better, but bad lyrics won't necessarily make it worse. Earthly Love is a decent example - the lyrics are a big part of what I love about that song. Psalms of the Moribund has some great lyrics but it's not as important, because the vocal performance is what really sells it. I try to write good lyrics for my band, but I make no effort to enunciate them, because I think it suits the music better to just make froggy gurgles.

I personally like to be able and make out a word here or there, and I've basically kept that style in each band I've done vocals for. I don't hate it when I hear absolutely inaudible vocals, as long as its used well within the song. Like someone else said, it's more of an instrument than anything. I don't care much of the content, although some bands do make for a good read.

Lyrics are cool and are an important factor of the music if you ask me. Well, it should be about gore and stuff when it comes to death metal, but that's just me.

For Death Metal yes, lyrics are widely used and can be heard to the songs until now. I agree that for BDM, most bands and listeners are focusing on the music and sick vocal attack.

As someone who loves to read, lyrics are an important aspect for me. Whether or not the lyrics can be deciphered isn't make or break for me, but I do enjoy reading lyrics where it's obvious the writer put some thought into it.
