I'm fairly sure I'm not the only guitar nerd here who spent weeks getting a few tones that I like! I'd love to hear some of your guys tones that you worked on and what gear you used to get it. I'm running a ESP M-1000/Ibanez RGIT20FE with 81s into a Kemper Profiling Amp. This is a completely raw track of a 5150II Profiles I've spent some time optimizing 5150II tone on soundcloud
Here's a tone I've used for Ryan Bruces' RiffsAndBeards contest - again the tone is completely raw with just the basic drums. I think it was a Dual Rec and a Krank Krankenstein combo Dual Rec/KrankensteinWould love to hear what you guys use while practicing, recording or live!

My main gear is an ESP LTD 417B with EMG 81-7 into an Peavey 6505+ and an Peavey 6505 straight box. I use this and band rehearsals, live and for recording.
For practicing at home I use an Line 6 UX1 with Pod Farm. It's not good, but it works for practising and recording some ideas for my bandmates.

Main go to is ESP EC1000T with EMG 81 into the Kemper.
Recently been going between 5150III and Recto profiles but haven't heard how they'll sound live yet.
Will get a sample up at some point for sure.

I use my LTD MH-417 through my crate blue voodoo head with a Vader 4x12, also with a TS-7 Tube Screamer, I've used it for the past 3 years and it works GUCCI, I want to upgrade to a peavey 6505 or something more crunchy as a head eventually though

I don't have a picture of my pedalboard handy, but here's the signal chain:
ESP E-II Horizon FR-7 with the upgraded EMG 57-7/66-7 pickups
Mesa Triple Rectifier
Vader 4x12 (standard)
TC Electronic PolyTune2 Noir Decibel 11 Switch Dr looper/switcher Maxon OD808 ISP Decimator 2 (before amp input) MXR 10-band EQ MXR Smart Gate (in the amp loop) Boss Super Chorus Boss DD500 digital delay MXR Carbon Copy analog delay Boss Reverb
Planning to run this in stereo A-B/Y with either my old Ampeg VH140C, a 6505 or a VHT Pitbull for some future stuff. The signal chain may get complicated, but I think I can get there.

But if you get the same speaker couldnt you technically have a vader cab ?

But if you get the same speaker couldnt you technically have a vader cab ? Vaders came with custom Eminence Legend speakers. They are good cabs for sure, and indestructible, but I recorded with an oversized Mesa Rectifier 4x12 for a reason - much richer tone, deeper and more powerful bass. Not knocking the Vader as such, just saying that the Recto cabs are really excellent. Those come with Celeston V30 speakers.

My setup is super simple. I play a BC Rich 7 string stealth (active EMGS) through a Peavey 6505+ into a Marshall 1960a cab. Scooped mids, high gain, no pedals except an original crybaby wah. Sounds fat as fuck. At home I practice on a shitty Line 6...

Scooped mids, high gain, no pedals I agree, I love to try different distorsion pedals and effects but if your amp sounds great with high gain then you just don't need them, except if you are looking for a very specific tone (the BOSS HM-2 typically). But for my shitty practice amp, I like to use a BOSS Metal Zone with 0 distorsion : it gives a great gain boost and a very nice fat/crushing sound for palm mutes. Not BDM related, but for the bass in my crust punk band, I use a Behringer Heavy Metal distorsion, it's a copy of the HM-2 with the exact same sound. The big amount of mids is perfect for the bass to be audible through the mix, as the guitar is covering most of the low and high frequencies. When I started I was setting my EQ with lots of low frequencies and I just couldn't hear myself most of the time, now that I stand in the mids, the bass and the guitar sounds blend together perfectly.
