Hey, I love the slam that I was listening to in the 90's when I was in HS. Internal Bleeding, Dehumanized, Disfigured, Eternal Suffering, Entorturement, etc. But over the past 10+ years the genre got played out. It's gotten mega generic and repetitive, there's no creativity anymore. Don't get me wrong, there's still good, new slam bands but they're few and far between nowadays for me. But yeah, it's basically extremely gotten dumbed down, a lot of it sounds like it was written in 2 minutes.

Hate is a strong word. To me, a song that it 3 or 4 minutes of all slams gets incredible boring and also doesn't utilize the true power of a slam riff. The older bands worked the slam into a SONG. Having an entire song of those riffs is anticlimactic.

But yeah, it's basically extremely gotten dumbed down, a lot of it sounds like it was written in 2 minutes. Basically this. When I first heard about "slam" it denoted a part of the song that had a heavy groovey slow riff . And like the other dude said. Thars how to make good slam to have it be broken apart by other riffings. A good slam should be the climax of a song the song should build up to it and then release it and then finish the song and maybe bring it back again. Slam itself as a genre was ok for about a year. Now its dumbed down boring / no effort music. Not to say all bands but a lot are fans that pick up a guitar tune to drop A and then play some 4 , 3 , 1, chugs. And churn out bullshit like jackrabbits. Also theres this new trend for deathcore bands to call themselves slam to try to seem like theyre doing something new, but its still just deathcore with a more squiggly logo. The term was annoying 7 years ago and just as annoying today. But thats just my opinion or something.

I miss when slam was gross. Slam used to be perverted, barbaric, raw, filthy shit. Digested Flesh, Artery Eruption, Dehumanized, Cephalotripsy, Devourment, Human Rejection, etc. etc. It used to all still stick to the same tenants that embody what I love in all death metal; it was unique, passionate, gross music played for the love thereof, nothing less or more. It used to be fucking genuine. Now it's nothing but a watered down fucking trend that deathcore faggots that heard 2 Kraanium songs decided they could play because they finally realized the godawful deathcore trend died out. 95% of slam projects started in the last 5 years are complete and utter shit. They all have the same production, the same vocals, the same grooves, the same, lame predictable bass drops. It's fucking color-by-numbers brutality for bandwagon jumping idiots.
That said, I really DON'T hate slam. There's a lot of bands I really like; Maximize Bestiality, Epicardiectomy, Extermination Dismemberment, Korpse, just to name a few. I won't ever hate anything just because it's popular or a fashion trend. I judge music solely on that, the fucking music. But wading through the sea of fecal matter for a few good bands gets tiresome. Thankfully, you can tell the crap pretty easily. Super bright colored art, overly generic names, bland logos, they use the same cookiecutter templates in the aesthetics just as faithfully as the music itself. The weak bands who play for their own glory are pretty easily differentiated from bands who play totally for the love of doing so, the bland, plastic end result is the proof.
And THAT is why I hate what slam has become.
P.s. slamcore/slamming beatdown is literal cancer. Death to bands like Clawhammer, Vulvodynia, and Within Destruction.

I think a lot of things changed with the advent of what started with bands like Abominable Putridity - though they no doubt weren't the first, they have that really polished, somewhat sterile sound that (IMHO) doesn't really gel with slam stuff. It's more what you'd expect from tech-death bands like Obscura etc. Though everyone seems to be on the "clean slam" train nowadays. That said, this is the real problem with new slam bands:

I do not hate slam. It's just that the band is lacking creativity when it comes to song writing and it gets boring after a minute or two.

Well, looks like im the only guy on here that doesnt mind some Vulvodynia thrown amongst the mix with my BDM, haha. But couldnt agree more, it is deathcore ultimately. And simplistic deathcore at that but whatever catches your ear i suppose

Overpolished production and those plastic drums :/ Though, I do enjoy some slams like Cerebral Incubation, as the old Eternal Suffering, Sintury stuff, howbowdah.

Overused word. People don't know how to slam. Just that one riff Suffocation once wrote is not "slam". Playing it three minutes in a row is boring, it gets annoying, and it's not creative. Drums usually sound like a big pile of feces and the younger fanbase is absolutely cancerous. Plastic production, , repeating the same riff. No thanks.
I do like a lot of slam though, but I mainly listen to Soils Of Fate, Internal Bleeding, etc...

I like death metal for it's evil and sometimes psychedelic sounds. I like it's complexity. Slam doesn't have that as much but I do like it if it has good groove and rhythm.

I love slam but hate the polished/computerized part of the genre (most of it nowadays). Few exceptions that includes deathcorish riffs and more a brutal approach are ok to me like Acrania, some of Ingested, Vomit the Soul. I just hate the Analepsy, Vulvodynia, Within Destruction trend...
Best bands that are pure slam are Cerebral Incubation (amazing production and drumming), first Gorevent, Cephalotripsy, Envenomation.
