This is place is dead right now and needs some traffic. What better way to get that then by starting a fight?
Post your unpopular opinions related to death metal in the thread below and try not to disown one another over them.
- I vastly prefer mid-era Cannibal Corpse onward to their oldest work. Eaten Back To Life, Butchered At Birth and Tomb of the Mutilated are all fantastically nasty records but I return to them probably the least of any CC album. Besides Gallery Of Suicide, but I feel like almost nobody remembers Gallery Of Suicide and for good reason. Maybe that's another unpopular opinion, I don't know.
- Bolt Thrower is the greatest OSDM band of them all in the "Old Guard", as it were. Bar none, none of the other bands even come close in my eyes. Shame they turned into the neutered entity that is Memoriam.
- Obituary often feels like the odd one out of the OSDM pioneers. I feel like they lack that One Thing that sets them apart from the rest of the pack. Morbid Angel has their distinctive haunted, mildly atmospheric sound, Bolt Thrower brings the grooves, Death has the thrash-y riffs, Entombed has the buzzsaw guitar tone more than anyone else, but Obituary feel like they've never quite had a distinction in that way. I don't know, maybe I need my ears checked. I do have shitty hearing.

Obituary has such a distinct sound and tone. Tardy's vocals, the sludgy down-tuned Celtic Frost riffs, and the groovy beats.
There's no band that sounds like Obituary and I'm not a big fan.

Both love old CC and the Vile/Gallery era almost as much.
